About This Spot

Stepping into A la ferme de Shinjiro feels like entering a quiet corner where French culinary artistry and the rhythms of rural Japan subtly intertwine. Nestled in the heart of Kanazawa, this intimate restaurant carries a gentle warmth — a blend of thoughtful hospitality and a pace that invites you to slow down and savor each moment. The space hums with calm attentiveness, where each table is thoughtfully arranged, and the soft clink of Kutani ware promises an experience rooted in local tradition.

Here, the menu unfolds like a conversation between the seasons of Ishikawa and the finesse of French technique. Dishes rarely serve as mere nourishment; instead, they cultivate a harmony between the rich umami of local beef and the delicate sweetness of fresh seafood. Whether it’s the tender roast of Noto beef or the subtle earthiness drawn from Kaga’s vegetables, each plate feels like a story whispered with care.

The pairing of house-crafted wines, born from the nearby organic vineyards, adds an intimate layer to the meal. They don’t merely accompany the cuisine—they deepen the connection to place and moment, echoing the land’s quiet generosity. It’s an experience unfolding gently, punctuated by the authentic enthusiasm of a team who clearly cherish the craft and cherish their guests equally.

A la ferme de Shinjiro is a haven for those who appreciate how culinary elegance can flourish quietly beyond city bustle, revealing itself in the delicate balance of local ingredients and genuine warmth. Whether sharing a thoughtful lunch or lingering over a special occasion dinner, it’s a place where discovery feels personal, and every flavor reflects a chapter of Kanazawa’s rich heritage.

It has been such a pleasure to dine at A la ferme de Shinjiro on my first day visiting Kanazawa (20 February 2025). I am grateful for Chef Susaki-san and his team for the wonderful culinary experience combining the best of French and Japanese cooking techniques using fresh local produce. The food was exquisite and the service impeccable. I particularly liked the crab flan with mushroom consommé as well as the Noto A5 wagyu beef with red wine sauce. The other dishes including the flounder meunière with fugu milt in saffron sauce and the red snow crab with tuna tartare were also outstanding. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in Kanazawa.

We had the best service in Japan here. The waiter was very friendly and caring to our needs. Sadly, we didn't get his name. The chef, Hiroshi, cooked a very delicious meal for us. His culinary skills hails from France and it showed in his presentation and preparation. Their own Japanese wine also was great. It went well with the food. Best Japanese French fusion lunch!

We came across this small place while wandering down the street. The food was absolutely amazing. Although categorized as French cuisine, chef cleverly mixed in local ingredients. We had the 13200 course with wine paring (+3300 per person). This was definitely the most delicious meal we had in Kanazawa.

The restaurant is run by an organic winery, and the pairing with wine is superb. It truly showcases the strength of Japanese wine. The dishes are exceptionally delicious, featuring Kaga's traditional vegetables. As it's French cuisine, it's easy for foreigners to enjoy. The tableware, traditional Kutani ware from Kanazawa, enhances the dining experience and stimulates the appetite. The bread served uses organic wheat grown by the owner, making it unquestionably delicious. The ambiance of the restaurant is a comfortable space, with a modern twist on a traditional Japanese house. When in Kanazawa, this is a place where you can experience both tradition and innovation. You can't miss it.

This was our first western cuisine restaurant in Kanazawa and what a gem of a place. Small 16 seater restaurant with a openstyle kitchen and you get treated by the chef in every single dish. We tried the 13,300 yen dinner course with wine pairing and we loved every dish in our 6 course menu. Starting with amuse bouche every single dish showcases local produce with french style cooking and all the produce complemented each other harmounishly. Simple cooking with delicate style but tasted delicious. The chef makes homage to all the local ingredients and was a delight to try his take of pairing those ingredients in every course. Wine pairing is done from the local winery for the first two rounds which was unique and somewhat of a eye-opener and the last two rounds with french wines. Overall we loved our dining experience and had a enjoyable evening at this small restaurant.
